David Moyes doesn’t deny that West Ham United could be attracted by Steven Nzonzi.

On Christmas Day, Moyes said that West Ham would be interested in signing Nzonzi from Sevilla, but suggested that a deal could be complicated given the managerial situation at the Andalusian club.

“I think he’s somebody who would be of interest to us if he came on the market,” Moyes declared, according to the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg. “I wouldn’t say that about others but he’s not playing for some reason at Sevilla – albeit the manager’s gone, so maybe that changes the situation there.”

Nzonzi made just 10 La Liga appearances this season under Eduardo Berizzo, who was dismissed by Sevilla on Friday “on account of the team’s poor run of results.” He had returned to the club one week earlier after successful surgery for prostate cancer.

Nzonzi’s last appearance came on Nov. 21, when Sevilla and Liverpool played out a 3-3 draw in the Champions League. After the Reds tallied three goals in the first half, the French midfielder was replaced by Franco Vazquez at the interval, paving the way for a comeback that was completed in the 93rd minute. According to Marca’s Alberto Fernandez, the product of Amiens SC showered and marched home before the end of the match.

Sam Allardyce also expressed interest in Nzonzi, who represented Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City before joining Sevilla.
