Eintracht Frankfurt announced Thursday that club captain Marco Russ is healthy after his battle with testicular cancer and has reportedly been given the all-clear to return to rehab and training.
“Marco is healthy. Doctors have given him the permission to pursue his trade,” Eintracht Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac told reporters on Thursday, as quoted by ESPN FC.
“We are delighted about the news. Marco was here today and delivered the message. He will now try and catch up as soon as possible.”
Russ, 31, was diagnosed in May after failing a routine drug test, where the growth hormone hCG was found in an unusually high level. The failed drug test prompted further investigation where it was discovered Russ had a cancerous tumour. He underwent surgery soon after.
Now cancer free, Russ plans on resuming his playing career and is targeting a January return during a winter training camp in Abu Dhabi.
