Miguel Layun’s next challenge will be in Spain.

On Monday, Sevilla and FC Porto reached an agreement for the loan – with an option to buy – of Layun, subject to passing a medical. The Mexican wing-back, in and out with the Azuis e Brancos, will arrive in Seville on Tuesday.

Layun joined Porto on a one-year loan from Watford, with an option to buy for €6 million. The footballer made just 16 Primeira Liga appearances last season and started just two league games this campaign.

While appearing on ESPN’s Futbol Picante, Juan Carlos Osorio lamented the lack of playing time for Mexican players in Europe, saying: “Our grave problem is that our players don’t play with the frequency that we’d like them to play. There’s a part to be understood … we can’t pretend to have a national team of standard when our players don’t compete.”
